Meet the children in need of a home for Christmas

Here are a few photos from the home in urgent need of assistance.

On this day we brought donations of shoes, undies and shirts.

One little guy was so excited about his new undies he kept them for the photo!
This precious girl is one that I enjoy visiting when I go to Ghana.
She is an orphan and this is her home.

Everyone was excited about all the donation that were brought!

FAQ:

Q: Why does the home need this much money?

A: In Ghana leases are paid in advance and the property owner will require 1 or 2 years rent in advance. $4,550 will pay for rent for 18 months.

Q: Where did they get the money for this home to begin with?

A: 2 years ago an organization donated the fees for rent for two years.

Q: Why haven't they been saving for this need?

A: This house has not had any regular sponsorships until the last couple of months. There are very often serious food shortages. Any money that came into the house went for food and water, if there was extra, this would pay for a child to go to school. In addition there are 6 aunties that help care for the children. These women live there and are not paid for their work except a small token if there is some money available. There has been no opportunity to save for this need.

Q: Why is there such a rush now, less than 10 days?

A: In my experience (Kamille), Ghanaians rarely ASK for help with a need in their own home. They may share a need, or they may not. Generally it takes a little detective work to figure out exact needs and urgency. In this case we were aware the lease was ending, but didn't realize there was NO support or back up options to get through this time. Now we know and now we are able to help.

Q: What is the current status?

A: The home has been seeking help and reaching out to anyone who has donated in the past. Now Project Global Hope and Feeding the Orphans are partnering to raise these funds. Please join us by donating via the option on the right side of the screen or visiting our online auction here.

Home for Christmas

There is an orphanage in Ghana that is reaching out to get assistance with their housing. This house is home to 38 children and 6 caretakers. Their lease ended 3 months ago. They pleaded to be able to stay at that time, and were given 3 month's grace. On December 16th the grace period will end. The orphanage needs $4,550 to pay for another 18 months of rent. Ghana requires that 1-2 years of rent is paid in advance to secure a lease.

Without a father

I journeyed to a remote area to meet this family. The story: A young mother, and four children, abandoned by the father/husband. The husband was maintaining two wives and decided to abandon this family to care for his other wife. The mother is left to care for the four children. Her work - selling smoked fish, this requires her to be away from her children for extended periods of time to travel into a more populated area for selling. Her income, barely $2 a day. The children do not have access to medical care or education, and are on a very limited diet.

In this case the grandmother sought out help from a community member. The community member was asked to assist in arranging the adoption of these four children. General rules do not allow 4 children to be adopted by one family. This would result in the siblings be separated from their mother and from each other. If you would like to sponsor this family, please consider a one time donation or monthly donation to help provide for this family in time of crisis.

In preparation for a visit to a community in a very impoverished area, I was asked to bring formula. When we arrived I was introduced to this 4-week old. The mother left the child at birth. The woman caring for the baby barely has food for herself and is now trying to care for this infant. No access to bottles or money for food, this infant is trying to survive. The cost of formula is approximately $10 per week. If you would like to assist with the provisions of formula for this baby, please donate at paypal and make note the funds are for Baby Elijah.

3 day old baby - Crisis pregnancy

Before I left Teshie I was introduced to a young girl who had just given birth.

The girl was in the house of the baby's father. The baby's father was present, until labor started to intensify. At that point he packed his bags and left. The young girl continued her difficult labor on her own. Once she delivered the baby she was unable to deliver the placenta and began calling for help with what small amount of strength she had left. A nearby neighbor heard her calls and came to find her alone with the baby lying a in pool of blood. The good Samaritan was able to call for help.

The girl is presently in temporary care. She has no one to take care of her and no where to stay. Funds are needed to house her and feed her. There is an opportunity for her to be placed in housing near care and support. The fee for the one room quarters must be paid 3 years in advance. The cost approximately $500. Additionally the woman will need assistance with food and medical care during the first few weeks and months of this infants precious life.

Reba needs your help

During a visit to a foster home, we found this girl who is clearly in need of medical care. In addition to the skin infection, hernia and kwashiorkor, she was suffering from an acute illness. She was lethargic and feverish. We were able to work together to get her started on some medical treatment to help with the skin infection (this picture does not show the extent of the infection) and some immediate relief from the acute illness.

At this time we are trying to raise money to continue this child's medical care, nutritional needs, and daily care. She has been moved to a new location to ensure 1:1 attention during her recovery. There are food and housing costs, hospital fees, and costs for medication. If you would like to help us provide the much needed care for this girl, please donate on the paypal link and make a note that the funds are to go to the care of Reba. Her monthly costs for food and care are approximately $100, then the additional costs to improve her health.
